Buddha Bar Coming to DC

Buddha Bar DC Coming Soon to Penn Quarter DC

Buddha Bar DC - There are has been a certain buzz floating around the city in regards to the latest outpost for Buddha Bar. A few investors have decided to try and open a outpost for the hit restuarant/lounge venue.

According to the Washington Business Journal, an investment group called Little Buddha of Washington, D.C. LLC, has leased 9,400 square feet of space at 455 Massachusetts Avenue, NW. This location is close to Chinatown and the Verizon Center.
With a Little Buddha located in The Palms hotel in Vegas this outpost had beenvoted the best sushi bar in Vegas two years in a row. The Las Vegas branch is part of original world-famous Buddha Bar in Paris.

We hope Buddha Bar DC lives up to its reputation with exotic decor and atmosphere, amazing sushi and an excellent selection of cold sakes. The only full scale Buddha Bar's is located in NYC -Meat Packing District. This is a extenstion of the Paris based, Buddha Bar with was created by George V Eatertainment

George V Restauration has ten restaurants and three hotels around the world. The Buddha Bar has inspired a series of chill out albums was created by DJ Claude Calle who compiled and produced the first two albums. The albums were released under George V records.
This project is still in the early stages and will take a while before there is any visible signs of the venue. This will truly be a much needed addition to the DC restaurant lounge scene in the Penn Quarter district. With a brand like Buddha Bar known for its amber-coloured lighting, rich mahogany furniture, decorated wood panels, lush reds and gold, luxurious fabrics and Portuguese mosaics that all come together to create an opulent and refined décor. We hope the DC outpost will hold true to those standards.
What is truly interesting that the DC area beat out other hot areas in the country like Miami and LA for this outpost. This may be the fact the economy here is safeguarded somewhat by the heavy federal presence in the job market. Whatever the case, we truly hope this outpost is created and built with the same attention to detail as the locations in Paris and Dubai.

1223 Nightclub ( www.1223dc.com) Is Now Closed

1223 Nightclub and Lounge (Spank) ( www.1223dc.com) Is Now Closed
Well in sad news this weekend is the scheduled last date to enjoy the venue that everyone has set foot in from Michael Jordan to Sultans from Saudi. The former caviar bar and lounge known for amazing happy hours and tons of celebrity guests has finally closed it doors. Just after reaching ten years of amazing parties and events this is sadly the end of the road for 1223.

Owner David Karim has decided to part with the venue and focus on new ventures. As you know DC Nightlife veteran Karim has been one of the steady hands behind the hands down hottest venue of 2008 Josephine Lounge. There are few new projects in the works for David and company that we will remain hush about. Know this though, with such a amazing nightlife resume that David has built over the decades this will not last time you hear from DK.

Atlantis, The Palm: $1.5 Billion Hotel Opens in Dubai

Atlantis, The Palm Jumeirah: $1.5 Billion Hotel Opens in Dubai, UAE

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (February 2008) - With the globe in world wide recession with currency values falling, the price of barrell of oil wil under 60 dollars. Are we in recession? In some corners of the world, its all perspective.

Take for example, Atlantis, The Palm the flagship resort on The Palm Jumeirah. This is the first resort to open its doors on Dubai's revolutionary island.

The likes of Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington and Janet Jackson have all jetted in for a three-day extravaganza, dubbed "the party of the decade". Even Lily
Allen's blagged an invite.
And with the showcase suite costing a whopping £23k a night, you'd better have an opening party to do it justice.
The bash is rumoured to cost anywhere up to £40m. Guests will all be treated to a private concert on the waterfront by Kylie Minogue, followed by the
world's biggest ever firework display.
Dubai has expanded rapidly in recent years, with the sole intention of becoming one of the most important commercial and travel destinations in the world.
Steadily, projects are reaching completion - and they don't come much grander than the Atlantis. It sits nestled at the top of the Palm Jumeirah - a man-made
piece of land shaped, funnily enough, like a giant palm.
It's a huge pink structure that's bound to inspire love it/hate it arguments, but you can't fail to be impressed by its grandeur.
More than 1,500 rooms, a huge aquarium with more than 65,000 marine animals (I counted them all), more than a kilometre of beaches (albeit fake ones), a
dolphin park, a waterworld and staff from all around the world to tend to your every desire.
It is brilliant, pure indulgence, which makes the timing of its launch even more surreal.
It's hard not to forget that the world is basking in a recession, with the good old words "credit-crunch" never far from anyone's lips.
Yet here we are looking at extravagance on a stick. Money is indeed no object, with a rumoured spend of £950m and celebrities jetting in from all across the
globe for its opening.
And with the penthouse suite booked out for the next year, you can see there are plenty of customers willing to share the dream.
The owners of this hotel are sticking to that old adage: If you build it they will come - credit crunch or no credit crunch.
----not expensive just 35000 $ for one night

Alan Leibman, President & Managing Director of Atlantis The Palm, Dubai unveils the plans for this landmark development. Interviewed at ITB 2008 for BTN.

Atlantis, The Palm is the flagship resort on The Palm Jumeirah - the first resort to open its doors on Dubai's revolutionary island. Created by Kerzner
International Holdings Limited, a leading international developer and operator of destination resorts, the stunning new 1,539-room resort first welcomed
guests in September 2008.
With its enviable location atop the crescent of The Palm Jumeirah, the opening of Atlantis, The Palm continues to redefine tourism in Dubai as it is the
area's first truly integrated entertainment resort. Reflecting Executive Chairman Sol Kerzner's vision to transport guests into a dazzling, imaginative
world, the resort encompasses a 46 hectare site with 17 hectares of water themed amusement at AQUAVENTURE, extensive fresh and salt-water pools and lagoon
exhibits, an open-air marine habitat, a seemingly endless stretch of beach, luxury boutiques, numerous dining choices including four celebrity chef
restaurants, an exciting nightclub, a Spa and Fitness Club, and 5,600m2 of meeting and function space.

The Lost Chambers Suites are exclusive to Atlantis, with both bedroom and bath views directly into the mesmerising underwater world of the Ambassador Lagoon.
There simply isn’t anything to compare with this breathtaking accommodation.
Stretching over three floors, the Neptune and Poseidon Suites welcome guests with a grand foyer leading down a sweeping staircase into an elegant
aquatic-themed dining and living area, with butler's pantry. Then, of course, there are the sumptuous bed and bathrooms with their underwater views. If
guests are unable to tear themselves away from watching the 65,000 marine animals, a 24-hour dedicated private butler is available to serve refreshments

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (February 2008) - Four restaurants from four internationally renowned chefs will debut at Atlantis, The Palm this fall, making
the new entertainment resort the culinary destination in Dubai: world-class Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa opens Nobu with partner Robert DeNiro; British
television personality and two star Michelin Chef Giorgio Locatelli unveils Ronda Locatelli; Parisian sensation and two star Michelin Chef Michel Rostang
debuts Brasserie Rostang, and world-renowned three star Michelin Chef Santi Santamaria, known also as “The Architect of Food,” introduces his first venue
outside of Europe with Ossiano, a gourmet seafood restaurant

SANCTUARY Lounge (Dubai )

Opening hours: 9.30pm to 3.00am
Dress Code: Smart Casual

From the founder of Buddha Bar comes this modern baroque nightclub, including a dance club, lounge area and outdoor terrace. The club features a dance floor
surrounded by a suspended catwalk, with the music brought to life by the latest lighting technology. The more relaxed lounge opens up to an outdoor terrace
with a fountain surrounded by Majlis tents with lounge style seating.

An American Tradition Continues: New Presidential Era Begins With a New Cadillac Presidential Limousine

The New Cadillac Presidential Limousine
As many of readers know we are fascinated with all kinds of transportation from various autos to yachts to the latest travel innovations for 09. So when we received the press release for the 44Th President elects brand new ride we just had to share it.

We have some of the photos of the new Command-In-Chief’s new mode of transportation around DC streets. The new limo features Cadillac’s current front- and rear-end design from the DTS model. The back compartment where our new president elects sits is more than likely equipped with all sorts of mointors and modes for communication..sans blackberry of course.

Cadillac hasn’t released much in the way of details about what’s underneath and inside the the vehicle for security reasons. For those that don't the vehicles while assembled by GM, is completely disassembled after it leaves the factory at a secret service facility and put back to together piece by piece this done to ensure that the vehicle has no bugs or wiretaps inside.

There is speculation that GM used heavy-duty truck platform to support the immense amount of armor carried by the Cadillac Presidential Limousine. Check it out this unauthorized illustration of what you could possibly find inside and no there will be no diamond in the back in this one...lol...

PRESS RELEASE

WASHINGTON – As Americans celebrate the inauguration of a new president of the United States next week, another new Cadillac will grace Pennsylvania Avenue to lead the proceedings. President Barack Obama will ride in an all-new Cadillac Presidential Limousine, continuing a long tradition of Cadillac limousines that have served many U.S. presidents.

“Cadillac is honored to again provide a new Presidential Limousine,” said Mark McNabb, North America vice president, Cadillac/Premium Channel. “This is a great American tradition that we’re delighted to renew with an all-new car featuring the best of Cadillac’s dramatic design and technology.”

The image of an American president greeting crowds from a Cadillac limousine dates to President Woodrow Wilson and the early days of the automobile, and continues into a historic new era. The latest Cadillac Presidential Limousine is a completely new design, succeeding the DTS Presidential Limousine that debuted in 2004. The new car incorporates many of the dramatic design and technology features of new and highly acclaimed Cadillac vehicles in a purpose-built format tailored to specific and exacting specifications befitting presidential transport.

Inside and out, the Cadillac Presidential Limousine includes many of the brand’s signature design elements. Assertive, modern and elegant, the front of the car includes the intricate, dual-textured grille made famous by Cadillac’s most popular current models, the CTS sport sedan and Escalade. Vertical design elements, such as the car’s front and rear lighting, mirror those used on production models.

For largely functional reasons, such as optimal outward visibility, the car is slightly more upright than its predecessor. However, this new Cadillac Presidential Limousine occupies roughly the same overall footprint on the road as the previous model, with a similar size and proportion.
The side and rear profiles of the new Presidential Limousine are classic, elegant forms, evocative of Cadillac’s STS and DTS luxury sedans. Inside the cabin, the car includes the finest examples of Cadillac’s recent renaissance in design, technology and craftsmanship. The cabin blends modern design and technology with old-world craftsmanship. Major aspects of the cabin are cut and sewn by hand, the same process used in popular Cadillac models such as the CTS sport sedan.
Naturally, many purpose-built aspects of the car are specially designed and prepared for presidential use. The rear passenger area includes an extensive executive compartment with ample seating space, outward visibility and useful mobile office features.

The car was designed, developed and tested by specialists who adhered to an extensive set of specifications. It was subjected to an extreme testing regimen to ensure performance that achieves precise functional requirements. In doing so, security provisions were undertaken at all times during development to ensure the car’s functional capabilities are preserved and confidential.

An embroidered presidential seal is positioned in the center of the rear seat back panel, as well as on each rear door trim panel. Presidential seals are also affixed to the exterior rear doors. The U.S. flag is placed on the right front fender, and the presidential standard is located on the left front fender when the president travels in the vehicle. High-tech LED spotlights illuminate the flags at night.

History – Cadillac and the U.S. PresidencyCadillac has built limousines and special vehicles for U.S. presidents, diplomats, ambassadors and foreign dignitaries since the early 20th century, an iconic aspect of the brand that continues today.

Cadillac’s central role began during World War I, when many Cadillac engines and cars were transferred to military and government service because of their superior durability and power. One of the first chief executives to use a Cadillac was President Wilson, who rode through the streets of Boston during a World War I victory parade in 1919. A lavish 1928 Cadillac town car was used in the Calvin Coolidge administration.

In 1938, two Cadillac convertibles, dubbed the “Queen Mary” and “Queen Elizabeth,” were delivered to the U.S. government. Named after the great ocean liners of the time, the vehicles were 21.5 feet long, weighed 7,660 pounds and were equipped with a full ammunition arsenal, two-way radios and heavy-duty generators. Durable and reliable, the two “Queens” served Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower.
President Eisenhower, known as a car buff, rode in one of the first Cadillac Eldorado models ever produced during his 1953 inaugural parade. The Eldorado represented a high point in automobile design history, as it had the first wraparound windshield, a feature quickly adopted on other new production models.

In 1956, the Queen Mary II and Queen Elizabeth II convertibles replaced the original series. The vehicles were slightly smaller, but like their predecessors, were fully armored and featured state-of-the art communications. Moreover, the vehicles were fitted with narrow rims inside the tire in case the tires were shot out. The Queen Mary II and Queen Elizabeth II served not only President Eisenhower, but also Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Both vehicles were retired in 1968.

The Ronald W. Reagan administration was delivered a 1983 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine and a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham – Presidential Series was delivered to the William J. Clinton administration in 1993. Unlike previous models that typically were Cadillac cars adapted and modified by independent limousine companies, the 1993 Presidential Brougham was designed, developed and manufactured totally within General Motors and Cadillac. This included an extensive set of security measures to maintain confidentiality, a process that continues today.
Currently, the 1983 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine resides at the Ronald W. Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, Calif., while the 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham is at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Ark.

Cadillac has produced two presidential limousines this decade that remain in service. The first was a Deville Presidential model delivered to President George W. Bush in 2001. In 2004, President Bush debuted a new DTS Presidential model. It was the first application of a new design that launched later that year for the production DTS full-size sedan.

### Ballet Performance at the Kennedy Center Opera HouseThe evening starts at 7:00 PM at the Kennedy Center Opera House where we present a performance of Don Quixote by the Mariinsky Ballet. Boasting an artistic legacy that spans more than 250 years, St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Ballet follows its sold-out 2008 performances of La Bayadère with yet another master ballet in its repertory: Don Quixote. Based on Miguel de Cervantes's sweeping tale of romance and chivalry, the Mariinsky's whimsical production follows the knight-errant of la Mancha, who sets out to defend virtue and punish those who violate the code of honor. With his servant Sancho Panza as his armor-bearer, he travels to Barcelona, only to mistake Kitri, an innkeeper's daughter in love with a barber, for his beloved Dulcinea. Brimming with magnificent virtuoso and ensemble dancing--from the colorful caravan of gypsies, to Espada the fiery toreador, to the entrancing Queen of the Dryads in the famous ballet blanc dream sequence--Don Quixote is the mighty Mariinsky at its best.

Limited tickets are available for Second Tier Center and Second Tier Right Site.

Capitol Pecha Kucha Vol. 6 - Sponsored by Bisnow

Capitol Pecha Kucha Vol. 6 - Sponsored by Bisnow

Organized and launched in March 2007 by Rouzita and Bita Vahhabaghai of ita-design and Yiselle M. Santos Rivera, Capitol Pecha Kucha promotes local DC creatives working in all media including the visual arts, architecture, design, music, fashion, film, and literature.

The Pecha Kucha Night patented presentation system allows presenters 20 images each shown for 20 seconds - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. Talks are concise, the interest level is constant, and more presenters receive the opportunity to share their work.

Pecha Kucha --Japanese for the sound of conversation-- taps into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown. The brainchild of Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, Klein Dytham architecture, Tokyo, began in 2003 as a forum for designers to meet, network, and show their current work to the public, and has since spread to over 150 cities across the world.

Please join them for Volume 6 which focuses on Change, specifically individuals who are addressing meaningful Global Issues in their work.

Inaugural Shoot With the Media Mavens

WASHINGTON, DC AREA BUSINESSES SHOWCASE THEIR VISION FOR INAUGURAL FASHION IN A PHOTO PICTORIAL FEATURING DC’S MEDIA MAVENS
(WASHINGTON, DC) – Washington, D.C. area businesses came together to showcase their vision of what will be worn to Inaugural events this year in an artistic
photo pictorial by photographer Zaid Hamid which features three local women at the forefront of social media: Andrea Rodgers of http://www.askmissa.com/, Kate Michael of http://www.kstreetkate.com/ and Pamela Sorensen of http://www.pamelaspunch.com/. Aba Bonney Kwawu, President of the Aba Agency, a luxury marketing, public relations and special events boutique, styled the shoot with the intent to create images that represent the fresh face of fashion at this year’s Inaugural events, and to highlight each blogger’s personality. “President Barack Obama’s inauguration will not be like inaugurations of old. As he is ‘The People’s President’, we will see much variety in the types of celebrations. From the formal State Balls to the hot cocktail parties and after parties, the red carpets will look much more like that of those in Hollywood and beyond,” said Kwawu. Kwawu selected formal and cocktail dresses from Bloomingdale’s, Chevy Chase with a variety of designers including Chetta B, BCBG, Marc Bouwer, Teri Jon and Diane von Furstenberg. Local designer Lacey Kirstein of LaceyK Shoes provided the footwear, which are available at Saks Jandel as well as online. Keith
Lipert chose the jewelry for each look from his collection at Keith Lipert Gallery. “It’s very exciting that the lead taken by the incoming First Lady, Michelle Obama allows us to explore design and style in new ways,” said Keith Lipert.

“The choice in hair, makeup, jewelry, clothing, shoes and our models in the photo shoot were reflective of the newness overwhelming the Nation’s Capital. The Obama Campaign showed us the power of being contemporary and diverse, and their use of the new technologies was unprecedented,” said Dennis Roche, whose Georgetown Roche Salon offered the shoot’s hair and makeup styling.

The photos were taken at the architecturally unique Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown. The hotel’s industrial chic design incorporated the property’s historic incinerator architecture with contemporary luxury to a stunning effect. Images were taken in Executive Chef Quang Duong’s Fahrenheit restaurant, the Ritz-Carlton Suite, and made use of the spectacular height and architecture in the Round Room underneath the former smokestack.(Pictured from left to right: Kate Michael, Andrea Rodgers, Pamela Sorensen by Zaid Hamid in the Ritz Carlton Georgetown’s smokestack room - to enlarge the image, please click on it directly)

Images from the shoot will be available on December 30, 2008. Please contact Zaid Hamid at info@zaidhamid.com

Lincoln 2.0 Inaugural Ball

Celebrate Obama's Inauguration In The Same Location As Lincoln's Inaugural Ball!

“A New Birth of Freedom,” is the theme for President–elect Barack Obama’s Inauguration Ball and commemorates the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. The words come from the Gettysburg address, and express Abraham Lincoln’s hope that the sacrifice of those who died to preserve the nation shall lead to “a new birth of freedom” for the United States of America. In March 1865, Abraham Lincoln’s Inaugural Ball was held at one of Washington’s “noblest” buildings. This National Historic Landmark is now the home of today’s Smithsonian American Art Museum and the site of the 2009 Lincoln 2.0 Inaugural Ball. The event will capture the essence of Lincoln’s Inaugural Ball while celebrating the progression of our country and the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. The Inaugural Ball will include lavish food stations, a full service open bar, and the opportunity to enjoy the historic collections of the museum.
