Who Brings a Gun to a Snowball Fight in D.C ? | DC Snowpocalypse Guerilla Snowball Fight 2009

Who Brings a Gun to a Snowball Fight in D.C ?
DC MPD That's who...

DC Snowpocalypse Guerilla Snowball Fight 2009
We usually try to stay away from these stories, but this one was too good to pass up. As you have seen on CNN and WJLA, there was a massive DC Snowball Fight 2009 at the corner of 14Th and U St. during the massive snowball fight a off-duty DC detective's maroon H2 Hummer was struck by a snowball, yes a snow ball in a blizzard. How did he even notice..oh never mind.

So what does our District's finest do, jump out with your city issue handgun with out showing your badge or identification and begin threatening citizens. We will leave the coverage at that...you can read more about this story at the CITY PAPER blog which is chronicling this story as it develops.

Savour/Sutra | Adams Morgan DC - Former Felix/Spy Lounge

Savour/Sutra Adams Morgan DC
The Former Felix/Spy Lounge Location

After the Felix/Spy Lounge owner moved on from the venue and focused on Hudson Lounge, new owners stepped in to revamp the venue. The brand new Savor softly opened this week. Opening during the biggest blizzard in years probably wasn't a planned move, but the show must go on. The venue hosts multiple bars, rooms, lofts, and various areas to snuggle away during these winter months.
For some reason this venue reminds me of Indebleu in the early days with dining focus upstairs and lounge/dancing scene on the lower level. Even the name is similar with the wood paneled lounge area of this venue being named Sutra. The lounge section of the venue has a large ceiling and sports a middle eastern feel with the interior. In the rear of the lounge there is a semi-private loft lined with black couches. For many dance parties to come there is the third level of the venue which will be used for DJ nights and various private events.
For dining the venue offers Savor, the menu has a American feel with crab cakes and citrus pork chops. The dining area features a exposed brick bar with orange splashed walls. Make sure you stop by this new venue to check out what they have done with the space.

Washington, DC 20007

:::: About the Embassy of Sweden

The new Embassy of Sweden building in Washington DC - House of Sweden - was inaugurated in October 2006. With its wood–patterned glass facade, House of Sweden has become a spectacular new landmark on the Georgetown Waterfront. The building is not only the home of the Embassy of Sweden but also the Scandinavian business community, an event center, the Embassy of Iceland and corporate apartments. Since the opening over 100,000 people have visited the building and participated in the Embassy program events and exhibitions which have presented Swedish culture, science, enterprise, art and music to a large American and international audience.

:::: About Swedish Lucia

The Swedish Lucia is a blend of traditions. The Saint Lucia lived in Syracuse, a martyr who died in 304. In the old almanac, Lucia Night was the longest of the year. By morning people needed extra nourishment. This also presaged the Christmas fast, which began on Lucia Day.

The first recorded appearance of a white-clad Lucia in Sweden was in a country house in 1764. The custom did not become universally popular in Swedish society until in the 1927 when a Stockholm newspaper arranged a contest to choose a Lucia to represent the city.
Lucia is celebrated in practically every Swedish home, community, office, school and club. Lucia with a crown of candles in her hair, accompanied by a train of maidens, all dressed in white brings Coffee and Lucia buns. They all sing the traditional Lucia carols.

All RSVPs MUST be made through the ICDC website.

Recess Lounge DC | Soft Opening Weekend

Recess Lounge DC Soft Opening Weekend
Recess Weekend Soft Opening Party Recess Washington 727 15th St. NW

Its finally the hear the soft opening week for Recess Lounge DC. The district has another place for young professionals to release and have a little recess.

The concept for the parties so far at this venue is a little different from the norm. There is no huge push for table and bottle service, there is no super exclusive list. This soft opening weekend the focus is on the sonic architects and mixologist that will be spinning at the venue this weekend.

The ownership hopes to have the DJ become the draw for the rotating nightly lineup. According to reps at the venue: "[it] promises to break the mold and provide an alternative to the bars and nightclubs currently in the area. Recess will be a sanctuary for high profile out-of-towners, D.C. tastemakers and celebrities with the goal of enriching local nightlife with quality music, great drinks and courteous service."

This Friday will feature DJ Deemo (Current Lounge) who has been rocking the outdoor deck at Current for a majority of the summer. On Saturday, DIMITRIS GEORGE( Hipster Overkill) will rock the venue with his unique style that has earned him a following all across the district.

Here is a list of the some of the deejays that will be spinning at the venue:

Ghana Cafe DC Finds a New Home in the District

Ghana Cafe DC Finds a New Home in the District

The Ghana Cafe is coming back to the district with a new address and expanded menu.

The exposed brick restuarant that comfortably seats well over 100 guests with booths, chairs, and featrues a bartop covered in traditional handmade "Kente" patterns. this Logan Circle spot is the reincarnation of the closed AdMo institution; due to zoning, they're shifting from live-music/dance-bar to a more sedate sit-down where you can still drink 'til you feel like everything's gyrating. In keeping with the tweaked mission, the expanded menu packs in a haul of new seafood, including shrimp, salmon, and lobster all cooked in "Ghana Cafe Sauce" (a Harris-Teeter/Whole Foods - carried recipe w/ tomatoes and Ghanaian mystery herbs); as well as old favorites like the spiced, soft-plantain "Kelewele"; beef or chicken khebobs w/ jollof, rice, or plantain; and a plantain bean stew named "Red Red" by Peace Corps workers in Ghana, who lacked the green green to afford anything else. In addition to 5 wines (Africa to Cali), and 7-odd standby beers (Red Stripe to Sierra Nevada), they've got 7 African imports including Star and Culden (Ghana), Zambezi (Zimbabwe) and Castle (Cameroon), all avail in 22oz bottles the owner calls "the biggest beers in town" (just wait 'til the 40oz Lobby hears about this).

For an adventure of the mind and digestive system, be sure to ask at the bar for their unlisted mystery cocktail, the "Kill Me Quick" -- a tempting option for child stars whose once-cute fatness insists on standing by them.

History of CHANEL:

The House of Chanel, more commonly known as Chanel, is a Parisian fashion house in France founded by Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel. Founded in 1910, the small shop selling ladies headwear had moved to the upmarket Rue Cambon within a year. The house became especially famous with the elegant little black dress and its signature Chanel No. 5 fragrance - so called because she was given a set of five samples by the perfumeur Ernest Beaux. She had instructed him to create a fragarance that should be "All about scent and nothing about the bottle." Out of the five scents samples, she preferred No. 5. "It will bring me luck," she declared. Ernext Beaux also created four other perfumes for Chanel; the are the little known Bois d'Illes, No. 22, Cuir de Russie, and Gardenie. However, Gardenie has recently been re-released by the House in 2005 with international acclaim, a scent that fuses jasmine with musks.

Chanel revolutionized haute couture fashion by replacing the traditional corset with the comfort and casual elegance of simple suits and dresses. She introduced to the world her signature cardigan jacket in 1925 and signature “little black dress” in 1926, introducing a more sultry and seductive definition to “sexy.” She had numerous other major successes that changed the fashion industry including the ever popular "'Chanel suit'", an elegant creation composed of a knee-length skirt and trim, boxy jacket, traditionally made of wooven wool with black sewing trim and gold buttons, worn with large costume-pearl necklaces. Elite women of high socities around the world began to flock to the now legendary Rue Cambon boutique to commission couture outfits from her. The House of Chanel has become an icon of elegance, as well as the ultimate sign of French high class, la coquettrie.
