Jazz in the Garden Summer Concert Series at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden [Free Event]

The Jazz in the Garden Series free concert series features jazz artists performing a wide variety of styles—salsa, blues fusion, xylophone, Afrofunk, every Friday evening from 5pm to 8:30pm in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.

A special menu of appetizers, entrees, and salads is available inside the Pavilion Café, while an outdoor grill provides barbecue pork sandwiches, beef and chicken kabobs, and chicken sausages. A gelato cart is also conveniently located near the fountain. A variety of beverages—beer, wine, sangria, mixed drinks, and soda—is sold on-site. Guests may purchase food and beverages from the Pavilion Café and its carts located around the Garden or bring their own picnics.

2014 Fashion for Paws® Runway Show  | Omni Shoreham Hotel | Washington, D.C.

The Fashion for Paws® Runway Show is a nationally acclaimed one-of-a-kind luxury brand event to benefit the Washington Humane Society! The heart and soul of the event are the fundraising models who agree to raise a minimum of $5,000 in just ten weeks leading up to the event by participating in a friendly fundraising competition. The top fundraiser, winning "Model Washingtonian of the Year," and the first and second runner up will be recognized on the runway.

Fashion for Paws® (F4P) benefiting the Washington Humane Society (WHS) began in 2007 with the first spring Runway Show. In just its first 7 years, the Fashion for Paws® Runway Show has been a great success, selling upwards of 1,700 tickets each year, raising nearly $3 million for WHS and generating a significant amount of national and regional media coverage.

Love Nightclub DC (1350 Okie Street NE) is now up for auction again. The historic LOVE Nightclub DC formerly called Dream. After many years with struggling parties the massive Northeast venue is up for sale due to bankruptcy. The 35,000 square foot nightclub which was owned by Dean Smothers after Marc Barnes sold it for a loss during his hard times. The venue is still plush like the days during its prime.

Ibiza Nightclub DC Shut Down by DCRA

Ibiza Nightclub DC which operated in the NoMa neighborhood of Northeast D.C. was shut down by D.C. officials Wednesday, April 9th for operating without a proper business license.

The D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs issued a notice to discontinue business at the club because the establishment does not have a "valid business license," said Matt Orlins, spokesman for DCRA.

The club's basic business license expired in June 2013, according to a memo from DCRA. Ibiza Nightclub DC is required by D.C. law to have a public hall license due to its occupancy load of over 1,300 patrons. In order to reopen, Ibiza will have to apply for a new public hall license.

The expired license was discovered during a site inspection by the District of Columbia Noise Task Force March 28.

As a result of the DCRA action, the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration also issued a cease-and-desist order to Ibiza to stop the sale of alcohol at the site. ABRA licensees "shall not engage in the sale or service of alcoholic beverages unless its BBL is in good standing," according to the order.

Ibiza's liquor license will have to be reinstated by the board in order for the club to resume operations.
The club has had its share of negative headlines in recent months. The club's operators were also subject to scrutiny by the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration last summer for sale to a minor, according to a local ANC Commissioner.  Ibiza Nightclub DC operated by Superclub Ibiza LLC on First Street in NE DC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as of July 3rd.

The owners of the nightclub decided to put it on the market for $4.5 million dollars.  Whoever takes over this venue will get the “nude dancing license” that comes along with it.

This is the third large-scale nightclub to close in D.C. in the past year. Love Nightclub DC formerly Dream created by Marc Barnes which sat off of New York Avenue NE ceased operations in November 2013. The property at 1350 Okie St. NE is currently up for auction by Tranzon Fox.  Fur Nightclub DC headed by Michael Romeo at 33 Patterson St. NE closed operations in D.C last August and is making way for new building in the NOMA area.

Nowruz 2014 : A Persian New Year Celebration | Washington DC

International Day of Nowruz | March 8th | Freer, Sackler, and Ripley Center

Nowruz begins precisely at the vernal equinox, on the 1st day of Farvardin of the Islamic solar calendar, usually on March 20th or 21st. It is a time of great joy and family celebrations that are shared by people of all faiths in many countries that trace their history back through the centuries to the ancient Mesopotamian civilization and the Persian Empire.

Haji Firuz, sing in the streets to announce the festivities and house cleaning is a part of the preparations. On the Wednesday before Nowruz bonfires are lit to jump over and children gather coins and treats as they visit neighbors.

Nowruz is the beginning of the year for the people of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Tajikistan and a few of the Asian republics of the former Soviet Union. It is also celebrated as the new year by people descended from Persian and Iranian ancestors. The Kurds in Georgia, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey celebrate Nowruz as the new year festival. Many communities where people from these countries have settled also join in the celebrations.

Dance, play, and feast your way into the Persian New Year at the Freer and Sackler Galleries. The museums' sixth annual Nowruz celebration features free attractions for all ages, including:
