Crystal City Gets Even Greener for Spring

Crystal City Gets Even Greener for Spring
Visit the Emerald City and Get Fit, Healthy, and Green!

Crystal City (Arlington, VA) - Crystal City will glow even greener at tonight’s Arena Stage Benefit. The event, which raises over one-third of the funds necessary to run Arena’s Community Engagement programs, will feature a performance of “Arena Stage in Oz.” As the area’s Emerald City, Crystal City will sparkle as the celebration also kicks off the Crystal City Business Improvement District’s (BID) Green Scene.

“The Arena Stage benefit is only the beginning of a great Green line-up in Crystal City.“ Said Angela Fox, President and CEO of Crystal City BID and co-chair of the 17th Annual Benefit. “With Green Scene, Crystal City will get fit, healthy, and green for spring.”
With activities planned throughout the season, the first exciting Green Scene program brings fitness to the forefront! 5K Fridays will offer workers, residents, and visitors a chance to get active together. Every Friday at 6:30p starting April 3 and running through May 1, participants will run a professionally timed and certified course organized by Pacers.

Crystal City’s newest residential property, “220,” will host the start/finish line and provide water to racers, while Noodles & Co will offer the opportunity to do a carbo load (pre or post race) with two for one pasta dishes. Runners can then shower courtesy of Sport&Health before heading over to Tortoise and Hare for live music after parties. And, to demonstrate how fashionable running can be, the final race on May 1 will feature the “Little Black Dress Club” members running in their stylish “LBD-best!” All are invited to don an LBD and join in the fun! Each race costs $15 or pay only $50 for all five. Details and pre-race registration is available online via Pacers at www.runpacers.com.

Crystal City BID is not just green in the spring. All events, from the recent Crystal Couture to summer’s Crystal Screen, are designed to produce “low- to no- waste” while promoting energy efficiency and environmental quality. Events use eco-friendly products (plates, forks, cups, etc.), compost bins, and active recycling.
