Cocktails for Creatures : A Nightlife to Nature Fundraiser 5.21.2010 Funxion Lounge

Nightlife to Nature Hosts Cocktails for Creatures to Raise Funds to Protect Endangered Species in Costa Rica Washington, DC, Lydia L. Arshadi, founder of NightlifetoNature.com, will hold a fundraiser and silent auction on Friday, May 21st, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at FunXion located at 1309 F St. NW, Washington, D.C. The fundraiser will aid in sponsoring volunteer missions to protect endangered species in Costa Rica.

NightlifetoNature.com aims to raise $8,000 or more to continue its mission of community outreach, environmental protection, animal rehabilitation and aid entrepreneurs who wish to establish their own businesses in underdeveloped countries.

“While I was marketing in the hospitality industry, my real passion was always helping animals and working within the community. I chose to go about working with them in a very [non] traditional way when I eventually changed career paths. I established Nightlife to Nature in an attempt to influence my peers to become involved in volunteer work and community outreach, and to show them how easy it is to make a difference in a community. I find people become so accustomed in daily rituals and ‘homey’ comforts that they quickly forget that there is a much deeper meaning to life. I want to create a strong connection between the cocktail-sipping socialites and the barefoot tree-hugging environmentalist”.

The event will host local environmentalists, bloggers, equestrians, animal activists, artists, musicians and athletes. Comedian Tehran SoParvaz, Magician David Breth and Haitian percussionist Names Thompson will entertain the crowd in their talents. Additionally, icons like former-Redskin player, Gary Clark will be present to show his support. Hor’s d’oeuvres will be provided by the functional fit-food restaurant, FunXion, and a large silent auction will run for the first three hours of the event. ###
Nightlife to Nature.com’s first mission is to aid in the rehabilitation and protection of endangered animals through sponsors that enable Arshadi to travel on these missions. The site is an outlet for stories, photo journals, blog posts and interviews with government officials, park supervisors and local community activists. The latest mission was with the endangered Oliver Ridley turtles, which have dropped nearly one-third in population over the last twenty years due to poaching, land development and chemical contamination like BP’s recent spill.
