Layla Lounge DC - DC's Newest Addition to the Lounge Scene is Now Open!

The latest addition to the Shaw area of NE had its grand opening this weekend. After opening date being pushed back many times due to construction delays. This past weekend it opened with much fanfare, thanks in part to the Urban party duo Marc & Taz's hype machine. This weekend featured the usual DC celebs/athletes. Allen Iverson left confines of his Gaylord upper level hotel suite to party it up with Darnerien McCant and Vernon Davis and some of other usual Redskin party starters in the upstairs glass level VIP.

The 5,000sq. ft two level venue is very plush with white leather couches for the all important bottle service. Promising unparalleled table service and Mediterranean inspired menu with tapas style dishes for guests to dine on. The first floor Layla features panther slate walls and black gold slate floors. We are not making this up, as your move upstairs to the much coveted "GLASS" level that features 16 VIP tables and LED walls similar to Saki or Tangysweet. The design itself for some reason reminds me of Pasha in Dupont Circle, and that may just be me.

Layla is the creation of Sheldon Robinson and partners, Mr Robinson of 40/40 and LOVE fame dropped us a few hints many months ago about this spot and we promised we would keep it hush hush. With well over a dozen tables and minimums started at the DC requisite 500. Layla falls right in step with other lounges in the city. The venue will be open from Tuesday - Saturday, menu items and happy hour plans have not been released yet. With a beautiful website created by the TheMouseArtist, we are hoping for the best.

The only difference is the surrounding location, with neighbors and a area the reminds you of the meat packing district/the drama that was area surrounding LOVE. It will be interesting if lounge lizards and DC socialites will the leave their newly adopted K street corridor to venture into NE to get their party fix.

Noted: After a very public exodus by their landlords, with DJ equipment and sofas being cast out into the street and photos circling the DC web scene. The Republic Gardens have apparently settled the lease/money issue and have re branded themselves as "The Gardens" at 1355 U Street NW DC , after remodeling and changing a few elements inside, they reopened this past weekend to capture some of the AKA party crowd.

D.C.'s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration - Out of Control

Word around town is that the DC Government has its sights set on Entertainment complexes and nightlife venues. The ones supposed the DC ABRA has decided to focus on are the ones that have a intense amount of violence and underage drinking.

In the article, D.C. Cracks Down on Clubs by Washington Post Staff writer Keith L. Alexander. The article stated: "This year, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has temporarily suspended the licenses of 94 nightclubs and permanently closed two others. Last year, the board issued 138 suspensions but did not close any clubs." You may have noticed in our prior posts the two venues that were shut down.

Upon doing some research of our own we noticed that the number of ABC licenses suspended and fines issued quadrupled from 2006 - 2007. In 2006 only 38 licenses suspended were suspended but fast forward to 2007 138 licenses were suspended. We understand there has been a mini club and lounge boom in the NW and NE corridors of the city. Nonetheless those numbers are insane.

The latest to fall in the crackdown was Cafe Citron last week. We are still waiting on updates to the reason for the suspension, but sad to say we know there are more on the way. in speaking with a few owners and management, the general consensus is that its getting harder and harder to run a nightlife facility in the city.

In late June Adams Morgan famed bar Madam's Organ which has been operated by Bill Duggan for well over a decade faced a 5 day suspension for a shady seat occupancy violation. After getting his lawyers involved the ruling was overturned and the suspension was dropped. If this is left unchecked this can snowball out of control.

Table service is taken to new level at this brand new lounge brought to you by Acott Ventures, LLC and Das Enterprises, Inc. The same good guys behind some of hottest parties in the city. It is truly amazing to see these guys go from throwing amazing parties to opening their own venue.

After gaining a ton of experience helping launch K Street Lounge and incorporating high end technology into their set up. When it came to time to create their own venue, they did not spare any expense in their own venue. This venue's table service experience sets out to be a step above the rest. After hosting a small press sneak peak a few months ago. Shadow opened to the public last week. We actually had the pleasure of stopping in for a few seconds, and to say the least we were impressed.

The wild part is this is just some of the features at this venue.

There are also super secret plans for some 23rd century technology to be incorporated into the table reservation system (Think Minority report - ). There are plans for a possible expansion into other markets, which we have been entrusted to keep under wraps but all we can say is keep up the good work Das and Company.

Platinum Nightclub - Up for Sale/Lease

Platinum Nightclub is Officially Closed!

Well the day has finally come. As we reported earlier in our updates in the Penn Quarter area, the troubles Abdul Khanu's incident prone Platinum was having. Well it seems Papadopoulos Properties has had a enough. Now when you visiting Ultrabar or COCO Sala you can see the large for lease sign for the building.

The building which was orginially a bank has housed various nightclubs for the past 30 years. The future for the building is currently unknown, but rumours have have been buzzing around the city for weeks in regards to new ownership. We will definitely keep you updated.
