BEAT REFINERY OPENS TOP DJ SCHOOL IN MCLEAN, VA with Madonna's Tour DJ

BEAT REFINERY OPENS TOP DJ SCHOOL IN MCLEAN, VA

The premier DJ school in the mid-Atlantic region, The Beat Refinery, is expanding to McLean, Virginia! Since the first Beat Refinery opened in 2010, classes have been dedicated to teaching every aspect of DJing, combining traditional methods with the latest technology. Individual classes are taught by local working DJ legends, including veterans of the national DJ club scene DJ Stylus Chris and DJ Geometrix.

“If you love music and technology, this is something you should try.” says Katie F., Beat Refinery student. DJ and former Beat Refinery student Ross A. says “Whether you’ve played for hundreds of people or haven’t dropped a needle for the first time yet… the Beat Refinery can certainly teach you something.”

An Open House Party to celebrate the launch of the McLean school is on Wednesday, February 29, from 6-8 PM. This new location will feature the world-famous DJ Enferno - Madonna’s tour DJ, DMC World Vice Champion , veteran club DJ, production guru, and creator of the Live Remix Project. "Being in the same DJ crew with DJ Enferno and being good friends with him for the past 15 years, I've had the pleasure of learning most of the things I know about DJing from one of the best in the industry,” says DJ Geometrix, co-founder and director of the Beat Refinery. “I credit him as one of my influences in becoming an overall great DJ and if it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't have made the jump in becoming a professional DJ. I'm excited that he's joining the Beat Refinery family and I can't wait for him to share to our students the same wisdom and knowledge he's given me throughout my career."

The Beat Refinery offers a wide range of class levels, from novice to seasoned performer. Classes focus on skill sets including how to beat match, scratch, drop mix, create mash-ups, mix and blend, record multi-track mixes, and produce. The facility is stocked with some of the industry’s top turntables and mixers. Other Beat Refinery schools are located in Bethesda, MD, and Herndon, VA. The new semester of classes starts Monday, March 5, 2012, at all Beat Refinery locations.

Georgetown Jingle 2009 | Four Seasons Hotel DC

Georgetown Jingle 2009 Four Seasons Hotel DC 12.14.2008

In 2006, the Georgetown Jingle was created by the Four Seasons Hotel Washington, JDS Designs, Inc., The Washington Design Center, and the Georgetown BID to raise money for pediatric oncology programs in the Washington DC Metro area. Thanks to the generosity of area businesses, restaurants, and design professionals, the Georgetown Jingle has raised $645,000 for the Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Blood & Marrow Transplantation Program at Georgetown University Hospital.

The purpose of this family-friendly event is to celebrate the fashions of the holiday season and to support families battling cancer. In 2008, the committee is delighted to extend our support to two programs at Georgetown University Hospital. We will again support the hospital's pediatric bone marrow transplantation program. And this year, in addition to offering hope to young cancer patients who require life-saving transplantation, donations to the Jingle will be extending care to pediatric cancer survivors through the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program. It is our continued goal to help them establish a comprehensive pediatric clinic and research center benefiting hundreds of children in our area.

Georgetown Jingle 2008 raises funds for two programs at Georgetown University Hospital: the Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program and the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program. The programs' internationally recognized specialists are on the cutting edge of cancer research and treatment, and each staff member is dedicated to providing compassionate care in a setting that encourages young patients to act like kids-even while they're battling cancer.

As the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Washington, DC area, Georgetown Pediatrics can provide pediatric patients and their families with the most advanced therapies available, as well as a wide range of resources-including social services, art therapy, dietetic counseling, and emotional or spiritual support.

The time has finally come to bid adieu to Play Lounge DC. We are going to miss this place. From the staff Raj - Sherif - Tony - Pey - Warren... to couches we have partied on until the sun came up...we could go on for days.

This place holds a lot of memories for me personally and I am sure for many of you . Having hosted amazing New Years Eve with Gucci and Soulstice, this place was truly rockin. Of course what play story would be complete with out mentioning the stripper pole oh yes.. you know u have some wild nights with that pole. I am not going to lie, on my special day I had a few twirls on it myself. Thank you Mr. 151, but those details are for another blog. Play has held own since opening on Conn Ave with competition from Fly and and entrenched venues like Dragonfly and 1223. During its two year period of rockin Conn Ave, everyone from David Beckham to Christina A. all stopped by to party in the Playground.

This weekend Michael Romeo Group and Jamie Hess will hosting the closing parties on Friday and Saturday.

The last night of Play will be hosted by LVHM group along with Bud Light and its all going to a good cause benefiting Becky's Fund. DJ George K will spinning the best house and party tracks all night.

In the coming months Play will under go a massive renovation that will update the interior and decor and sound system. There are rumors of the second floor being taken over as well. Oh you know what second floor I am talking about..heheh...We will miss all of the staff the bartenders, Mal - "Play's Number One Dancer", to Mr. Teatro Tony. we shall see if Midtown will be able to fill the void Play is leaving.

YouthAIDS "The Power of Music!" 2008 Gala

YouthAIDS "The Power of Music!" 2008 Gala - October 3rd, 2008

Every year the YouthAIDS Gala produces an over the top, first-class, exclusive, A-List celebrity event. They should, for a ticket price that starts at $2,500. Kate Roberts, the Founder of YouthAIDS, and her team continuously raise their own bar and make an evening that is not only entertaining and enjoyable for their guests, but also one to never forget.

This year shall be no different (and you thought they couldn’t top Bono presenting an award to Speaker Nancy Pelosi?). YouthAIDS Global Ambassador, actor/activist/cause leader/natural beauty, Ashley Judd (pictured left from YouthAIDS website) will again Host the event at the Ritz Carlton in Tysons Corner on Friday October 3rd.

The globally focused non-profit will honor: Annie Lennox, Sir Bob Geldof, and Judy McGrath and special guests Anna Kournikova and Miss Universe will also be in attendance.

Last year YouthAIDS raised over $1.5 million and this year they hope to surpass that number and introduce more people to the good work they do throughout the world:
