BARCODE Restaurant & Lounge ///

Come next week, things will be different around here. Times are changing and the very fabric of this city will never be the same.

That's right: you'll have a new spot downtown for happy hour.

Introducing a sexy new spot for pizza, cocktails and late-night discussions of Fed policy (okay, maybe not that last one): Barcode, soft opening next week.

This is not the kind of place you're going to come for a quiet after-work scotch. Or a quiet anything. No, this is the kind of place, dotted with huge communal tables and even huge-er booths, where you'll break bread (and possibly other things) with a whole brood.

Your first experience here may be treating some colleagues to a lunch of brick-oven pizza and “oh, why not” cans of Moo Thunder Stout. (Tip: make your way to the end of the white marble bar, with two stools on the bartender's side of things).

But you'll be back at night with a madcap group in tow. (Let's call them the Ways and Means Committee.) Your conversation pieces: 10 flat-screens, a projection screen and colored LED lights blinking behind glass walls. Your small plates: meatball sliders and grilled calamari. Your cocktails: the Green Tea Mojito or maybe a Rose Kennedy (tequila, melon syrup and lime).

That girl loved to party.

♣ ABOUT LUKE FAIR:
At the forefront of Canada’s growing dance scene is Luke Fair. He’s performed at some of the most prestigious venues and events in the world, offering club goers a taste of his funky – techy eclectic house sound each and every weekend. His sets include everything from groovy house and techno to funky progressive and electro. Constantly re-editing tracks to customize his sets, Luke’s ongoing desire to make every set stand out from the others is very evident.

Luke has pushed his sound the world over, headlining at world renowned clubs like Pacha (Buenos Aires), Bedrock (London), Red Light (Paris), Space (Miami), ‘Zouk’ club (Singapore) and The Womb (Tokyo). He headlined the 8000 person ‘Moonpark’ party in Argentina this past June and Luke’s recent Eastern European tour with John Digweed ended at Godskitchen’s massive Global Gathering festival.

Luke’s skills have won the praise of some of the industry’s biggest players. He was chosen by Danny Howells and Deep Dish as their ‘future hero’ in DJ Mag’s Top 100 issue and, most recently, Luke was selected by none other than DJ Sasha to open up for him in every US city on the Involver CD release tour.

Over the past few years, Luke has garnered attention for his extremely diverse and genre-crossing studio efforts. From dubbed-out house to melodic progressive, his tracks have been played by djs from all across the dance music spectrum.

Everyone from Sasha to David Morales to The Plump DJs have all included Luke’s production in their sets. As well, Pete Tong has featured numerous Luke Fair productions on his world famous BBC Radio 1 ‘Essential Selection’ show.

Despite his heavy touring schedule, Luke continues to work tirelessly in the studio. His recently completed remixes of Agent 001’s ‘Faakson’ and Momu’s ‘The Dive’ will be hitting the stores at the end of the summer and a diverse 4-track EP on Bedrock will be released soon after.

The 19th Bar and Lounge | Grand Opening DC | 3-16-2010

The 19th Bar and Lounge Grand Opening DC 3-16-2010

Welcome the 19th as it takes over the former (Karma and the now defunt Skye Lounge DC) space, Skye which was known for its house and international themed nights and operated as dance venue and lounge with outdoor dining and hookah. The theme of the venue has drastically changed with the new ownership. The brand new golf theme relfects the ownership love for taking time out on the links. Gone are the sky blue walls they have now been painted a grassy green and golf posters now adorn the walls. The bar has now been refurbished with oak wood along wooden stools to give patrons a more relaxed vibe.

The kitchen will still be in operation, the menu will features soft pretzels, nachos, chicken tenders. Drafts on tap will be likes of Sam Adams and Italian favorite Peroni along with other common drafts. You can also reach for local brews like VA's Flying Dog Ales bottles,Old Scratch Amber Lager, and In-Heat Wheat Hefeweizen. There is massive whiskey selection that includes five bourbons, five ryes (including Beam's premium R1), and 10 Scotches, along with a full Macallan line-up (18 though 25).19th features a high-tech Macallan ice-ball press (one of only six in the area), which produces perfectly spherical orbs: slower-melting wonders of engineering ensuring only concentrated whiskey enters your own imperfectly spherical orb.

I wonder if its by chance that the grand opening is going to be on St. Patty's Day's. None the less they will be offering $3 pints of Guinness starting at 11am in the morning.

DC Coast Teams up with Local K Street Venues

DC Coast Teams up with Local K Street Venues

As many lounges and resturants have seen a drastic downturn in attendance at their venues in the past few months. Many lounges have decided to join forces with local resturants in hopes to draw more patrons into their venues.

In the past few months DC's top lounge of 2008 Josephine Lounge recently partnered with Mio Resturant to offer party goers a venue to dine of fine cusine before hitting the lounge for the night.

Now DC Coast has taken that concept one step further with its neigbhoors on K street. When you dine at DC Coast on Valentine Day with a prix fixe meal priced at $50 after 9:30 p.m. After finish dining they will issue you VIP passes to the lounges and clubs that in walking distance of the venue. The venues include:

1223 Nightclub ( www.1223dc.com) Is Now Closed

1223 Nightclub and Lounge (Spank) ( www.1223dc.com) Is Now Closed
Well in sad news this weekend is the scheduled last date to enjoy the venue that everyone has set foot in from Michael Jordan to Sultans from Saudi. The former caviar bar and lounge known for amazing happy hours and tons of celebrity guests has finally closed it doors. Just after reaching ten years of amazing parties and events this is sadly the end of the road for 1223.

Owner David Karim has decided to part with the venue and focus on new ventures. As you know DC Nightlife veteran Karim has been one of the steady hands behind the hands down hottest venue of 2008 Josephine Lounge. There are few new projects in the works for David and company that we will remain hush about. Know this though, with such a amazing nightlife resume that David has built over the decades this will not last time you hear from DK.

D.C. Bars and Nightclubs Offered little wiggle room in bar hours

D.C. Bars and Nightclubs Offered little wiggle room in bar hours
The District's decision to extend last-call for bars and nightclubs during the inauguration week has its limits, officials said yesterday: Those businesses that have struck agreements in the past with neighborhood groups over hours and rules must honor them.

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and Attorney General Peter Nickles announced that these "voluntary agreements," some of which go back 20 years, will remain enforceable, covering about 345 of the 1,027 establishments across the city. Many, but not all, of the agreements preclude the sale of alcohol after 2 a.m. on weekdays and after 3 a.m. on weekends.

The announcement was a victory for neighborhood activists who expressed concern about noise, disorderly conduct and other problems if the rules were not enforced.
The decision came three days after the D.C. Council formally approved legislation to allow bars and nightclubs to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. from Jan. 17 through 21.
The council initially planned to extend the hours until 5 a.m. but backed off amid criticism from some inaugural planners on Capitol Hill.

The 4 a.m. hour matches the extension that is typically granted for New Year's Eve. The usual cutoff hours are 2 a.m. on weekdays and 3 a.m. on weekends.
"We have also been very sensitive and cooperative and supportive of the business community who wants to be able to welcome the many people who are coming to the District of Columbia to help celebrate the magnificent occasion that is the presidential inauguration," Fenty (D) said at an afternoon news conference.Nickles said the question was whether the council's legislation affected the voluntary agreements. The conclusion was no.

"These agreements are in my view contracts," Nickles said. "As contracts, they are entitled to the protection of the Constitution, which protects the sanctity of contracts, and the council cannot affect their enforceability. So, those establishments that have voluntary agreements will have to abide by the restrictions in those voluntary agreements."
Those establishments without agreements, or whose agreements do not contain alcohol sale restrictions, must preregister with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. during the inauguration period. Registration forms will be available Monday, a board official said.

MCCXXIII'S 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY

MCCXXIII'S 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY 1223 Conn Ave 12.27.2008

Really, when we came across this we felt happy and sad. Why.
For two reasons in these shaky times we are living and ever change DC nightlife scene to have a venue that has been around for 10 years and still packs it in every weekend is tribute to the ownership and management/staff of the venue.
Sad, well because.. have we really been partying there for that long...we are truly getting too old for this. One thing is for sure it is a testament to owner David K. vision and mangement with this venue and his ever expanding empire. With this year's number one venue Josephine along with partners which included veteran promoter Alain K.
Know for its premium open bar promotions and attractive bar staff, the venue has been a manstay on Conn Avenue.
We wish David and Company many more years at 1223.

Lima Restaurant and Lounge Introduces Late Night Dining

K Street Lounge King - Lima Lounge DC Announces Late Night Menu

As Lima's Public Relations Manager Bryan Davis would say: Lima is a "destination bar", the kind of place you go to relax, converse and connect with people. "People who come to Lima are those who want somewhere to really enjoy themselves and indulge for the night", he claims, "not those simply looking for a place to grab a drink or meet up before moving on to somewhere else."

With that in mind and so many K street patrons leaving the area after all the clubs and lounges announce last call. There is mass exodus from the area to Georgetown or Dupont circle for late night munchies. The creative mind behind the venue decided to capitalize on the trend and is now offering a special late night menu from 12am - 2am on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Park at the Fourteenth - Receives Face Lift for Inauguration 2009

The Park at the Fourteenth - Receives Face Lift for Inauguration 2009

Over the past few days Marc Barnes fresh off his recent media coverage on CNN and CBS, has been very busy.
The last few days The Park at Fourteenth received a major addition to its face. The awning gives The Park a certain regal feel about the entrance, I might go as far to say Broadway..well maybe that is a stretch.
As venues are ramping up for Inaguration 2009, many venues have already renovated or adding to their spaces in the coming weeks.
More details coming soon.

Andalu and Sento and Senso Sold! | New Ownership!

Andalu and Sento and Senso Sold! New Ownership!

The 15 year old venue known for friendly owners and amazing Italian cusine has recently changed ownership.

The venue has been turned over to L2 Lounge mastermind Rodrigo Garcia, who just held court with Kobe Bryant on Thursday night. Joining Garcia on the venture will be veterans of the DC nightlife and resturant scene, Said Oudghiri, Osmar Nunez-Vilches, Joe Idrissi. These names should be familar to you if you enjoy dining at Latin Concepts venues like Yaku and Mate.

We wish the old owners the best with their Darlington House venue and the new blood as we are becoming giddy with anticipation of what this team is going to do with the venues.

Playboy Swimwear Fashion Show at K Street Lounge??

Playboy Swimwear 2009 Fashion Show at K Street Lounge DC ??
Has K Street Lounge come to this, things might be slowing down over at K Street Lounge. We saw this promotion a few weeks ago, and were quite shocked to say to the least. With the its neighbors at Lima and Josephine doing brisk business K Street Lounge is trying a lot of things to get crowds back through its doors. After 3 years in business, this might be some of the signs of slowdown.

Recently a sizeable chunk of their management and front door staff transitioned to Indebleu in the Chinatown area. With the back VIP area on several night never evening opening, new promoters have stepped in to help the venue.

We remember the days when a fashion show at K Street lounge was almost next to impossible, but a few months ago Sir Ebong Eka squashed that and produced a amazing fashion event for charity and his amazing menswear clothing line. Moving away from the charity fashion show to this Playboy Swimwear Show marks a huge change in the way K Street projected its image.
