Casa Casuarina - An oasis for the privileged few!

Casa Casuarina - An oasis for the privileged few!

It can be said that it was love at first sight when Gianni Versace first laid eyes on casa casuarina, which promptly became the only private residence on the infamous Ocean Drive.

The day the legendary couturier was murdered in 1997 on the steps of his south beach mansion signaled the end of an age of opulence. The mansion where elton, donatella and madonna have partied was shuttered. Until recently it has only been rented our for private events.

In 2007 (Soulstice DCLiton Events) House DJ Rich Webb spun at Casa Casuarina during the WMC 2007 for a private party and Kenny Burns DC native music producer and lifestyle specialist hosted his exclusive birthday bash last year.

Now for the first time the house that fashion built is reopen, this time around as an uber-exclusive, members-only club. most days, you won't get a glimpse beyond the wrought iron gates without paying upwards of $1,200 a night, but in the spirit of miami spice month, mere mortals are able to take guided tours throughout september. Originally designed in 1930 as an homage to santo domingo's alcazar de colon, the landmark is a study in lavishness and detail. Versace's signature baroque and rococo styles are on display all throughout the house, including eye-catching frescoes, mosaics and gardens. Please make sure you do not miss the moroccan and la mer rooms.

Gin & Tonic - Glover Park - Washington, DC | Former Grog and Tankard

Gin & Tonic - Glover Park - Washington, DC Former Grog and Tankard 9.13.08

Gin and Tonic softly opened on 9/12/08 in the former space that housed Grog and Tankard. You may the remember the former bar for its dive bar qualities.

"We brought all kinds of music there, but they were the kind of bands that didn't dedicate their time to the music over the years, practicing and getting better," said Khaled Hossainkhail, who goes by Colin Hoss at the club and is the booking agent, the sound engineer and a brother of the owner. At the Grog, "when most bands get together, they get together for fun. Former owner Hossainkhail who in 1984 brought live music to the Grog, which opened in 1964, Abdul's two brothers, Khaled and Hammed assisted in running the venue.

Now things have changed. Now under the Tavern Concepts umbrella controlled by Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld (of Latin Concepts), similar to the Latin Concepts parent company. Mauricio is hoping to do with Tavern, what he has accomplished with other lounges in the last few years.

Georgetown fixture Fritz Brogan has joined forces with Lounge guru Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld (Latin Concepts) in creating Gin & Tonic, in Glover Park area. The venue will feature leather seats, 14 beers on tap and a certain preppy vibe that is par for the area. The old concrete floor has been tiled and new furniture added for those who want to sit and have a bite with their Gin and Tonic's..couldn't resist.

Cadillac Ranch | National Harbor

Cadillac Ranch National Harbor Mechanical Bull Venue Metro Area

Coming to the National Harbor soon - You will no longer have to wait for the occasional chance to ride a Mechanical bull at McFaddens in NW.

Mechanical bulls are stampeding into the Metro area in late 2008. If all goes according to plan Cadillac Ranch, which also has locations in Nashville, TN and Cincinnati, OH will be a huge draw for fans of the robotic bovines (bulls). The premiere all-American Bar and Grill’s first east coast location will offer the best country, rock and party hits and the baddest mechanical bull in town.

The menu which features a signature Cadillac burger and fries that will cost around $9.75. Other burgers include a black-and-blue burger (Cajun spices and bleu cheese), and a Cincinnati chili burger and a Tempe burger (guacamole, salsa and pepperjack cheese), all $10.75 with fries.

Entrees range from barbecue chicken ($13.75) to a rack of St. Louis-style ribs ($23.75) to an 8-ounce filet mignon ($26.75). Desserts include fried cheesecake ($5.75) that just sounds like calorie roller coaster.

Just like the other locations this venue will also be nightlife draw for the area, with various Dj's scheduled to spin classic party anthems and country tunes for those wannabe Cowboys.

The dueling piano bar comes to life each night with live music on National Harbor’s Fleet Street, the façade adorned with a grand piano beckons visitors to enter.

Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant
The one-of-a-kind American-Italian family-style restaurant chain, that is wildly success at the Tysons Corner location which my waistline can attest to. This move signals the first Maryland location for the chain.

The resturant known for amazing Mexican cuisine and fabaolous margaritas and nominated for 2008 James Beard award is going a latin flair to every expanding National Harbor.

Adour DC Restaurant |

Adour DC Opening Today!
Adour DC 9.08.08 St. Regis Hotel

Chef phenom Alain Ducasse, born in southwest france, is bringing his latest resto adour to DC. If you've heard ducasse and adour in the same sentence before, you were probably dining at the sister restaurant in new york. The DC version (under the direction of exec chef julien jouhannaud, who's worked with ducasse for almost a decade) promises to be up to par with the its New York sister location. Johuhannaud who's resume includes: Le Louis XV in Monaco, Mix in Las Vegas, and the Harbour Grill in Singapore's Hilton Hotel knows what he is doing in the kitchen.

The location at the St. Regis hotel is just two blocks north of the White House. The hotel features Louis XVI chandeliers and bespoke butlers, so you know its not too stuffy..hehe...

“We are thrilled to welcome Adour to The St. Regis Washington, D.C.,” says Ross Klein, President of Starwood’s Luxury Brands Group. “Our guests are connoisseurs and we love the original approach the restaurant takes in both food and wine.” This what the president had to say about the restaurant opening its DC location.

For something that will make ShadowRoom envious or step up plans to reveal their next phase. Adour will feature Potion, a technology design firm that specializes in interactive installations, has created an interactive wine bar for Alain Ducasse’s new restaurant ‘Adour’ located in the luxurious St. Regis Hotel in NY city.

The 4-seat wine bar is made from gold and bronze and covered in luxurious goat skin. Built-in interactive technology helps wine connoisseurs choose a wine by browsing Adour’s complete wine list by wine type, country, and varietal.

Computer menus are projected from the ceiling onto the bar and customers make their choices by pressing on the bar’s surface with their finger tips. When a person selects a wine, a rosette-shaped image emerges with information about the wine on each of its five petals.

David rockwell's contemporary design highlights original features from the newly restored st. regis, including the landmark ceiling in metallic and dark tones. The restaurant will feature a diverse wine collection which is housed in floor-to-ceiling, temp-controlled vaults anchoring both ends of the dining room. The vaults hold with some 500 bottles in its cellar.

This restaurant is an oenophiles fantasy come true. We recommend trying the veal sweetbread meunière or ragout of Swiss chard. Make sure you save room for the caramelized brioche croutons for dessert.

Utilizing the freshest seasonal ingredients from the best American suppliers, Adour’s menu will feature an elegant cuisine, rich textures and new flavors complemented by a diverse wine collection. The restaurant will be open for both lunch and dinner seven days a week, as well as breakfast.

H20 RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE Washington DC (Restaurant) Closed

H20 Nightclub and Restaurant DC Closed

Sad news today for Abdul Khanu, his waterfront venue has been closed by ABRA Board. This is bad news for Khanu who was just seen relaxing with us last week at Josephines on friday night.

After three successive incidents at H2O during the early morning of August 23, the D. C. Chief of Police closed H2O for a 96-hour period until the city’s Alcohol Beverage Control Board could review the situation. Each of the three incidents was a violent felony assault either inside of or related to activities of the establishment and serious enough to require the victims to be hospitalized.

The rationale for the closing according to the Chief of Police was “to ameliorate the danger the establishment presents to public safety.” On August 27,2008, after testimony by two detectives for the Attorney General’s office and four ABRA investigators, the ABRA Board decided to keep the license suspended past the 96-hour period until a Show Cause hearing is held on October 22, 2008. A “show cause” hearing is held by ABRA “whenever the Board has reasonable cause to believe that any license or permit should be revoked or suspended.”

Following the closing of his massive waterfront venue, Khanu moved his birthday bash to neighboring Zanzibar restaurant. In unsurprising news, Zanzibar the titanic, three-story establishment that hasn't been doing so well with the seafood restaurant and was in danger of losing its liquor license, reversed its fortunes and won an appeal to become a nightclub.

More on this story here.
